It's Almost April; Time for Some Foolin'

I want to pack the kids' lunches on Friday with some April Fools pranks. This is possibly their second favorite holiday of the year. Anyway, I need some suggestions. I found a few pranks , but I need some that will work in a lunch box. Help, please?

Bayou City Art Festival

with the Saint Arnold's car Took Becca and a friend to the Art Festival on Saturday. Here they are posing with the Saint Arnold Brewery tie-dyed Bentley. BTW, Saint Arnold released a new Divine Reserve today that is supposed to be a big deal. I'm not an IPA person, but I mention it as a public service. You're welcome.

Watching Tony gets drunk and cuddly in Vienna. Listening to From the Amazon $5 bin. Fantastic record, but it must be taken in small doses. Too much Alison Krauss will send me looking for the nearest bridge to jump off.

Attention, Young Entrepreneurs!

Image
Emmet was excited about the root beer-making kit that Grams and Grandaddy got him for Christmas. With Papi's help, he got to make the root beer over the weekend. [It was flat as hell, by the way, but he sure enjoyed it.] I especially loved this insert in the kit. For only $10 (plus shipping!) you could add another kit -- and then set up a root beer stand! Let's do some math: Cost of original kit=$27.00; cost of refill kit=$10.00; cost to ship refill kit= $5.95; white and brown sugars for mix (supplied by you)=+/-$1.00; total quantity made= 4 gallons. So for $43.95 you could produce four gallons of root beer. That's only $11 per gallon! What a deal! For that 25 cents you're charging, you could sell one jigger of root beer and make mad profits! I'm sure the line will go around the block, young entrepreneur! On the other hand, I guess it's never too early to learn about pyramid schemes.

Spring Break...

Image
...is over now, sadly, though we had some good times. I went to Austin last weekend -- not for SXSW, but with my mother, to see some painted churches and go antiquing. [Anyway, I'm too old, fat and uncool for SXSW. I can't even work all the shit on my Blackberry. Although I am sorry I missed Jack White covering Buddy Holly .] The Clio garden at Bayou Bend was beserk with azaleas. This past week was Spring Break. Papi and I were both off, but we stayed in town and had a great vacation. We took the kids to the Children's Museum (and I did not die of boredom, though it was touch-and-go for a while). We also had a picnic in Hermann Park, hung out at the neighborhood park, went to Bayou Bend and the petting zoo. We planted some seeds and played in the yard and also just laid around a lot. And, for the record, I got my taxes done. YAY ME.

Anything to avoid doing my taxes...

Here's something to keep you occupied for a while... (thx flubby)

Signs that I might live in the best neighborhood in Houston:  1)Last night at a tour of the middle school, the PTO president pointed out that it's the alma mater of both Patrick Swayze AND The Undertaker . 2) the box from the local pizzeria ( Pink's ) has an art show print on it.

Listening to This would explain the dream I had about playing the spoons. We should get a whole family band together: Momma on the spoons, Daddy on washboard, Emmet on the jug, Becca on the kazoo. via Aquarium Drunkard
