Stupid Math

On the way to work today I realized that I WAY under-tipped our waitress at lunch yesterday.  I don't know what made me think about it, but I started adding it up and... yeah. And she was so nice to us! We had a homemade birthday pie for someone that she sliced and delivered to the table and everything.

I blame my friends: they won't let me take off my shoes so I can cipher.

Well, shit. I have to go back and give her some more money, right? What do I say when I see her?

  1. Just go back and say you realized after the fact that you'd undertipped, and apologize. She will appreciate the gesture.

  2. Just tell her you realized belatedly that your tip was off and that you want to make amends. I did something similar -- except I walked out without leaving ANY tip (yet another reason why I should never pay with cash) -- and I went back the next day, explained that I'd been so caught up in chatting with my girlfriend that I completely spaced on the tip, and that I was so embarrassed and sorry. I think our waitress was surprised I came back at all, and she was very sweet about it (the fact that she ended up with a 40% tip because I felt so bad probably didn't hurt!).

  4. I agree.
Just admit your mind was elsewhere...and make amends.

You will feel better...and get better service the next time you dine there.

  5. I did the same things as Jools, had a cranky baby and just forgot to tip. But I didn't go back and I have always regretted it (hello, 9 years later). Go back!

  6. I did the same thing to a massage therapist a few months ago...I didn't mean too...I was nervous because he was hot and I was naked...Now I'm too embarrassed to go back.

  7. As a former waitress, the moment you explain yourself she will understand and be grateful.
