Sunday Blue Law Blues

In Texas, you cannot buy distilled spirits on Sunday, even if you have a note from your doctor saying that Ina Garten's Beef Burgundy recipe is exactly what you need on a chilly March night and the cognac in it is absolutely essential to your wellbeing.

So FUCK YOU, Texas Blue Laws. This afternoon I'm going straight to the liquor store and chugging an entire bottle of Courvoisier. I'LL SHOW YOU.

  1. I like how you think. Go get 'em, Mamacita!

  2. Seriously. My husband and I have agreed never to move to a state that has uncivilized liquor laws. I feel for you.

  3. Far be it from me to defend Texas's stupid liquor laws, but what happened to the bottle of cheap-ass cognac that I picked up for you a few weeks ago? And if the answer involves multiple iterations of beef burgundy, why didn't I get any? ;-)

  4. And this is one of the reasons I moved from TX to Louisiana. The wine and liquor selection at any grocery store is positively huge and available all the time. (it's not really the reason, but you do raise a pet peeve of mine with that law...what's the point of it?)

  5. I get super annoyed if I go to the grocery store early Sunday morning and forget that I can't get my booze for Sunday night's family dinner. And white we're on the subject of grocery stores those of you that live in states where they don't have liquor in your local groc, those stores suck too.
